How foolhardy we were! I recall a summer in France when I went out dancing with another girl and some of her male friends. I did not realize at the end of the evening how much they had been drinking. They seemed sober... until we all got in the car and the driver started careening all over the roads. This was back when in France there were still those three-lane roads where you could over take the car in front of you driving in the (shared) middle lane. We were going 80-90 miles an hour on a small country road and the boys kept yelling at the driver "Redouble! Redouble!" Meaning, pass the car in front of us. I was never so terrified in my life. I thought we were going to die. Kids are so stupid. When my son went to college I did not let him have a car!
Lisa, I just now saw your awesome message of reliving the past It scares me to be honest, not just yours but mine having to rewrite my past. How else can it all come out? I know what you went through as It happened to me in Nuremberg Germany, late in a fiat 500 back in the early 1980's. 3 drunk Italians and one Sober Ollie in the Mid of February and hauling ass they were. I didn't speak Italian they spoke almost zero English and all I could say was Stop! Never again, we ended up at a Stop with rifles pointing at all of us in the car and the German Military yelling at the driver. I was a dead duck. I knew this would not end well, they thought it funny as they were drinking all night why I got in the car I don't a glue, boredom I guess. Stupidity for sure. Respectfully Ollie G
